5/3 - Training Hike VI Ice House Canyon to the saddle and back, 7-mile round trip. My 2nd favorite hike training trail is the maintained dirt road from Manker Flat to The Notch. All of the roads and trails leading to Mt. Baldy are closed due to the Bridge Fire. Icehouse is a couple miles down the road but it is rocky and steep. You get a fantastic workout in less time since the trail to the saddle is short. My legs went rubbery on the way down and a day later on Sunday both thighs are very sore.
4/19 - Training Hike V Red Box to West Fork in the San Gabriel mountains 10 hours including 1 hour wandering around looking at native trout and another 1 hour lunch 'n' nap. photos
4/12 - Due to The Airport Fire of September 2024, my local hike training zone -- Indian Truck Trail -- is closed. Second best is the Tenaja Trail west of Murrieta in the Cleveland National Forest, where I trained three consecutive Saturdays. photos
